How do you transfer an ISO certificate to another certification body?

IAF Consultancy

A company transfers an ISO certificate when a new accredited certification body recognizes the certificate it already holds and issues its own. The management system stays in place. The standard stays the same. The work is a review of a current certification, followed by a certificate from the body that accepts it. In North America the certification body is often called the registrar. The transfer is the same step under either name.

What does a transfer cover?

The transfer covers the scope, the sites, and the standards already on the certificate. Customers who ask for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 27001, or another management-system standard are checking for an accredited certificate to that standard.

Accredited certification bodies follow a shared transfer practice. The accepting body confirms that the certificate is valid, that it was issued under accreditation, and that the latest audits were completed. IAF Consultancy is not associated with the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). The name on this site is the auditing firm. Sustainable Management Group Inc. (SMG), accredited by the International Accreditation Service under MSCB-153, issues the certificate.

What stays in place?

The documented system, the internal audits, and the way the company already works stay in place. A transfer fits a company that already holds a current accredited certificate. A company with no certificate, or with one that has lapsed, needs an initial certification. That path is in how certification works.

On a clean transfer, the cycle already underway continues. Surveillance still happens. The expiry date printed on the current certificate is the date the offer should carry forward, unless a recertification audit starts a new cycle. Read that date on the offer before you sign. The detail is in how the expiry date is handled.

What does IAF Consultancy need before it can quote?

The application asks for the standard, the scope, the sites, and the people in the system. Under kind of work, choose Transfer from another body. Have the current certificate and the most recent audit reports ready. The list of what to gather is in documents needed for a transfer.

The written offer names the scope, the timing, and the price before a visit is booked. That speed matters, because the transfer has to be decided while the current certificate is still valid and while surveillance is still on schedule. If the file shows the certificate cannot transfer, the offer says what audit is required instead. The order of the move is in how to change certification body.

Who audits, and who issues the certificate?

IAF Consultancy carries out the audit work and can recommend certification when the review supports it. The recommendation is a step in the file. SMG makes the certification decision and issues the certificate, inside the standards on its accreditation. Those standards are listed in which certificates can transfer.

Companies usually leave a body because scheduling slipped, fees moved, or coverage of the standard changed. Those reasons are collected in why companies change certification body. The review itself is described in what a pre-transfer review checks.
