An ISO 9001 transfer moves a current accredited quality certificate to a new certification body. The quality system stays. Procedures, internal audits, and the way complaints are closed stay with the company. What changes is who reviews that system, and whose name is on the certificate customers ask to see.
What has to be true of the certificate?
It has to be in date, issued under accreditation for ISO 9001, and free of suspension. The scope wording matters, because the new certificate recognizes the activities and sites already certified. Design responsibility, outsourced processes, and exclusions on the current certificate need to be visible in the reports. Rewriting the quality manual is not part of the transfer.
ISO 9001 accreditation is also limited by industry sector. SMG is accredited for ISO 9001:2015 with a sector list on the accreditation. The review checks that your activities fall inside that list. The public record is linked from the SMG page. If the sector sits outside it, the offer says so.
What does the review read?
It reads the certificate, the last certification or recertification report, and the latest surveillance report. It reads open nonconformities, especially anything still open on operational control or corrective action. A major finding left unanswered does not become a clean transfer because the company would prefer a different mark on the certificate.
Buyers in manufacturing, construction, logistics, and professional services file the certificate in a vendor pack. They check that it is current and accredited. A contract that names one registrar by name is a commercial clause to read before you rely on the move. The certification result is an accredited ISO 9001 certificate for the same scope.
How do you ask for it?
On the application, select ISO 9001 and Transfer from another body. Describe the activities the way the current certificate describes them, and name the sites. The written offer states the scope, the timing, the expiry date the new certificate would carry, and the price.
IAF Consultancy audits where the review calls for an audit. SMG, IAS-accredited under MSCB-153, issues the ISO 9001 certificate. A company that also holds ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 can move those on the same application. See several certificates in one application. The general rules are in how a transfer works.
