IAF Consultancy

ISO certification is good for an IT business when a client's procurement process asks for it and the system behind the certificate changes how work is done. It is a poor investment when the certificate is bought as a sales badge and the documented process is never opened again.

Why Do IT Businesses Get Asked for ISO Certification?

Enterprise buyers, public sector tenders, and larger clients with their own security reviews often ask suppliers to show a management system. The request usually arrives in a vendor questionnaire or a prequalification package. The client wants evidence that the supplier plans work, controls changes, and handles incidents the same way every time.

For an IT business, the relevant standards are usually ISO 27001 for information security and ISO 9001 for quality. Some clients ask for both. Others ask for one and accept the other as a bonus.

What Does Certification Actually Change in an IT Business?

A working system touches the parts of the business that already cause friction: the change request that only lives in a chat thread, the incident that is fixed but never reviewed, the client data that sits in a shared folder nobody owns.

  • Change requests have a record and an approval before release.
  • Incidents have a closure step, not just a fix.
  • Access to client systems is reviewed on a schedule.
  • Suppliers and subcontractors are checked before they touch client data.

None of this requires a large team. It requires that the process is written down and followed, which is what an auditor samples.

When Is Certification Not Worth It?

If no client asks for it, and the business is small enough that the founder sees every change and every incident, the certificate adds cost without changing much. The same is true if the business cannot maintain the system between audits. A certificate that is not backed by daily practice is a liability in the next surveillance audit.

The decision is closer to the one in is ISO 9001 good for me than to a generic marketing question.

How Do You Start?

Certification with IAF Consultancy begins with an application. The offer names the scope, the days, and the price. Stage 1 reviews the documented system. Stage 2 samples the system in operation. When the audit supports certification, an accredited certification body issues the certificate. IAF Consultancy does not issue it. The sequence is described in how certification works.
